- Subject: User (Sysop) command documentation: 07/12/91
- Updated 03/12/92
-
- The original long Dbserv commands such as GET, LIST & INFO have been removed
- from the documentation but will still function as before.
-
- There are probably several undocumented commands that are available in
- BBserv that are not contained in this information. These have been added
- for sysops needing special operations and the documentation has not been
- updated well. Ask if you need something , it may be in here already.
- I have written this from memory and some may not be fully understood.
-
- Note! Some sysops may not wish to incorporate all these functions, If so
- delete them from your menu & if you do not provide directories for
- them they will not function & return an error message to the user.
-
- Requests are sent as the Subject of standard BBS (P) message addressed to
- BBSERV@BBScall and the available commands are:
- *** Substitute dbname with the database name wanted ! ***
-
- BBserv now only reads messages to BBSERV@Blank or Yourbbs
-
- (*) You must have the "SRV" directory & INDEX in place for this function.
-
- (Subject line command) (Operation from server)
- (D) dbname Filename.ext Returns the requested file as a message
- (D) dbname INDEX Returns an index list of the Directory

-
- BATCH or a blank subject line will cause BBserv to look in the message text
- for a list of up to 25 file requests. If no directory is used then BBserv
- will look in your MODS directory if it exists. Any combinations of file
- requests may be made using this batch method.
-
- A Subject request with a DD filename will default to your MODS
- directory if you have one.
- If a standard (W) command creates too large a file INDEX will be sent if
- available. If INDEX is not available an error message will be sent.
- Other server commands are cloned much as possible. Please provide data on any
- that you find useful.
-
- "OWNER" commands include the abitilty to path in & out of their own
- databases & subdirectories. Each database directory that has an owner
- or is "Public" must have a \UPL\ subdirectory on the disk. This is not to
- be put in parms.bb Users will be able to upload to these \UPL\ directories
- but not dnld. If these are standard AA4RE directories at the end of parms.bb
- then you must have subdirectory_ok = NO for each of the ones used.
-
- Subject? KILL Dbname Filename.ext
-
- "OWNERS" may kill, replace (edit) or request files from his entire directory
- and \UPL\ subdirectory but only his. "OWNER" is designated in the comment
- line directory setup in parms.bb. AN "OWNER" may be any user or BBS station
- These owner commands will be expanded on with the shadow developement. You
- may edit shadow.trl to suit your needs. This is sent as a trailer after the
- owner has serviced his database.
-
- If you have indexes a user may use the FIND command as a subject and it
- will search all indexes that exist for the subject string they request.
- It will return a message (up to the filesize) containing all the files &
- their database location with the search string in them.
-
- The word INDEX or FIND may be used with a space & the text to be searched.
-
- Example is Subject: FIND PK232
-
- Please read about the "MODS" & "FILEX" type commands in the documentation
- Compatibility with most existing servers may be accomplished.
